 Products
and Services
ITeM publishes books and magazines which are sold all over
the world. It has also branched out from paper to
CD-Roms and Web pages... However, not all of what
ITeM does is for sale. A great part of its
activity is dedicated to the international
promotion of citizen networks to defend the
environment, foster policies which favor social
development or train groups and people with
special needs.
ITeM has four
major areas of activities:
NGO networks:
From the pyramids to the XXIst century
Information, communication and campaign networks
are a form of social organization expanding
rapidly worldwide, supplementing (and sometimes
replacing) the hierarchical patterns that impose
pyramidal structures on social organizations.
ITeM actively participates in many national and
international networks, fostering and
strengthening them in several ways, particularly
supplying them with relevant information and
communication channels.
ITeM is part of
the following networks:
Third World Network is an international
network of groups and individuals involved in
efforts to bring about: a greater articulation of
the needs and rights of peoples in the Third
World; a fair distribution of world resources;
and forms of development which are ecologically
sustainable and fulfill human needs. TWN's International Secretariat is based in Penang,
Malaysia. ITeM hosts the Latin American
Secretariat.
NGONET: Since 1991, NGONET acts as
an "information broker" on global
decision-making processes to foster the ability
of citizen groups in the South to have a voice in
them.
RedBancos: The Latin
American and Caribbean NGO Network on
Multilateral Development Banks, created in 1994,
disseminates information about MDBs and seeks to
increase public influence over MDB policy and
projects. RedBancos facillitates in Latin America
the Multilateral Development
Banks Energy Project aimed at reorienting energy sector
investments of the MDBs towards sustainable
energy.
Social Watch publishes a yearly report
summarizing the findings of civil society
organizations around the world in their
monitoring of the implementation of the Social
Summit (Copenhagen) and the Fourth World
Conference on Women (Beijing).
World Rainforest Movement: ITeM
hosted the international secretariat of the WRM
and is actively involved in the International
Network on Tree Plantations and Paper, created in
Rio, in 1992.
